"Someone recently came into my life. She taught me to trust where my feelings lead me. I feel love toward my dead brother and anger that people think you could harm him. Those feelings lead me to stand here with you."
Sebastian

Dynamic[]

Catherine always hated Sebastian, as evidenced by her treatment of him. Her hatred presumably seeped from the fact that Bash served as proof of Henry's love and intimacy with another woman. But when Henry died and Francis followed not long after, Catherine faced threats to her rule. That is when she found a friend and ally in Sebastian.

History[]

Early History

Sebastian is the son of King Henry and his mistress, Diane de Poitiers. He was positioned to be hated by his step-mother, as he was born out of a relationship that publicly and privately humiliated the Queen.

Season 1

Queen Catherine regularly put Sebastian down. She couldn't stand his mere presence, as perhaps she felt that he was a constant reminder that her husband loved another. She even tried to have him killed. She resented him even more when he tried to usurp the throne from Prince Francis and was poised to rule with Queen Mary.

Season 2

When a match is arranged for Princess Claude, Sebastian goes to Catherine and urges her to show love to her daughter. She asserts her love for her children and warns him not to overstep his bounds as her brother, given the fact that he already crossed the line once. She asks him if Claude implored him to help her against this match, to which he replies he encouraged her to accept it as a new opportunity in life.

Later, Bash finds Catherine out in the garden freezing and carries her back to the castle. He tells her the truth about the nanny framing Claude for the deaths of her twins. When Catherine blames herself, he tries to console her, and when she mentions a chapel that had been given to his own mother, he suddenly suspects that his mother was behind the twins' deaths.

When Catherine hears that Bash has taken back land he was going to give to his mother and told her to leave court, she realizes that he did it because Diane killed the twins. Catherine kills Diane in retribution.

Season 3

Sebastian continues helping Queen Catherine after King Francis dies. He helps her defend herself and overturn plots against her. He also shows concern for her when she is hurt.

However, later along the line, Bash finds out that Catherine killed his mother. He asks Catherine for her body for a proper burial, but Catherine scorns his mother even more. Bash begins to choke her out, but Catherine talks him out of it. The two part ways on very sour terms.

Quotes[]

Queen Catherine: You know that Bash isn't really your brother. He's just your father's son. [1]

Sebastian: Believe me, if they're anything but the picture of health, I'm the one you'll have to restrain. [2]

Queen Catherine: Why are you helping me?
Sebastian: That's a very good question. [3]

Queen Catherine: So much for your investigatory skills.
Sebastian: I helped you and Claude! [4]

Queen Catherine: You are offering me a kindness and consideration I have rarely shown you through the years. Why?
Sebastian: Someone recently came into my life. She taught me to trust where my feelings lead me. I feel love toward my dead brother and anger that people think you could harm him. Those feelings lead me to stand here with you. [5]

Sebastian: The butcher still insists on his innocence.
Queen Catherine: As all men do before they swing. [6]

Queen Catherine: We need to keep the servants quiet. Bash, gather them up. Offer them bribes for their silence. If they refuse, tell them I will cut off their heads! [7]

Sebastian: Since you are the real King of France, consider this my resignation as your deputy. [7]
