We're hear the the guards

Roman and Hortenza de' Medici were waiting together in The Throne Room for their cousin Catherine. She walked in along with The Scottish Queen. Cortenza and himself had come to inform Catherine, she was going to be taking her guards back, she had lent them to her years ago and now wanted the back. Catherine and Cortenza bantered back and forth, a clear dislike for each other began showing.

The next day Cortenza burst into the Scottish Queen's room and informs her that Catherine had been taken, and whoever it was left a note. Mary asks what to do and Cortenza declines to do anything. Claiming that the Medicis don't give into the threats or blackmail.

She liked the gamble!

Cortenza's head is brought back by Catherine who had since freed herself. She orders an immediate search into his, Cortenza's and Mary Stuarts room.

That's night Roman brought a letter of Cortenza's he'd found in her room to Catherine. He explains that it would appear she had a great amount of debt she needed paid off. Thus explaining the kidnapping.

Cortenza de' Medici's body was later brought back to Italy.
