The Kingdom of Spain is a lively and very traditional kingdom with a keen interest in exploration and trade in The New World. It signed the Treaty of Vaucelles with France after 8 years of war by marrying their King off to the French princess, Elisabeth de Valois.

Greer told Mary Stuart the Spanish alliance from her marriage to Don Carlos would empower her and their nation against Elizabeth, and having Spain would allow her to bring Lady Lola and her family home alive.

Our Undoing
Duke of Alba agrres to the marriage. As who would be kinder to him than Mary, certainly not the prideful King Philip would lock him out of sight forever. In his state, Don Carlos has no marriage prospects. Spain will see Mary's acceptance of his condition as a win.

Spain is willing to reject Queen Elizabeth's offer of marriage, if Queen Mary agrees to grant her husband The Crown Matrimonial. If Mary dies childless, the Crown Matrimonial guarantees Don Carlos remains king of Scotland. King Philip makes the request most respectfully, as Spain is offering Scotland so much in return.

She claims it was to get away from the rumour that she drove Don Carlos mad with desire, but soon reveals her plan to stem the France's rising tide of Protestantism. She believes a match between Claude and Martel de Guise to be just the thing.

King Francis I was captured by the forces King Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor, and held prisoner in Spain. To obtain his release, he agreed that Henry and his older brother would take his place in prison. Both boys were held and beaten for 3 years.

King Henry singed the Peace of Cateau-Cambrésis to end a war with Spain, and married his daughter, Elisabeth of Valois off to Spain's King Philip
