Beatrice Somerset was invited by Queen Elizabeth to celebrate the 50-year mark of King Henry VIII's coronation.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

Beatrice served as a lady-in-waiting to the late queen consort, Anne Boleyn, until she fell out of favour with King Henry VIII. She was the one who told the outlandish tales that Anne was guilty of witchcraft and other depravities, because to speak ill of Anne was to curry favor with the king.

A chambermaid of Anne's claimed to have seen Anne and her brother George Boleyn together, but she knew no one would believe it unless it came from someone of a high standing. So Henry turned the screws on Beatrice and her family with threats and promises. After the trial, Henry awarded Beatrice the Boleyn family lands and she quietly left court.

Season 3[]

Queen Elizabeth announced she was going to give a golden apple to the first 100 people in line during King Henry VIII's 50 Year Coronation Celebration. While Beatrice Somerset was in line, Lady Lola tried to put pearls into her purse. She broke the necklace and, in the commotion the Queen had them both arrested.

While in The Tower of London, Lola claimed that a man told her to do it, but Beatrice knew the Queen was behind it. That is when she unleashed the tale of how the Queen came to hate her, because of what she had done to her mother, Anne Boleyn. When she was done, she added how often she'd wished to speak to Elizabeth and explain herself.

Three days later, she was released from jail after she returned the lands she had been given from King Henry VIII for her help as penance.

Historical Notes[]

  • Beatrice Somerset was based on Elizabeth Somerset, the lady whose testimony ultimately caused Anne's execution.
